More People Fear Net Crime Than Burglary

A study for the Get Safe Online campaign reveals people are more worried about Internet crime than being burgled.

21% of UK users surveyed felt most at risk from online crime whereas 16% worried most about being burgled.

18% said they would not do their shopping online because of security fears.

Some people are being put off using the Internet altogether because of the worries about online safety and the security of their personal details.

Although awareness of security risks online is rising, the survey found 17% of users did not even have anti-virus software and 23% admitted to opening unsolicited e-mail attachments.
