An article on the popular online encyclopedia site Wikipedia was used to spread malware designed to infect visitors' PCs.

The page, on the German version of Wikipedia, claimed to offer a fix for a new version of the Blaster worm.

Users were directed to download a file which was actually malicious code. Security experts Sophos found e-mails which were being spammed out to encourage people to visit the page and download the file.

Wikipedia has now removed the page. The site has come under criticism in the past for the way it allows anyone to edit pages, sometimes leading to incorrect or misleading entries.

Users are advised to keep their anti-virus software up-to-date to combat any new viruses that appear.
