Number Of Web Sites Passes 100 Million

There are now over 100 million web sites on the Internet according to a recent survey.

The survey by web research specialists Netcraft revealed 101,435,253 web sites, up from 97.9 million sites the previous month.

The number of sites has doubled since May 2004, when the survey hit 50 million.

However a large number of these sites are simply placeholders rather than true web sites, but there has been a huge rise in the number of blogs and small business web sites created this year.
