Worm Temporarily Closes Online World
Monday 20 November 2006
Popular virtual world game Second Life had to close down briefly on Sunday after it was attacked by a malicious program.
The worm dubbed "grey goo" attacked on Sunday and caused gold rings to appear in the world, which spread causing severe strain on the servers running the game.
Second Life is a hugely successful online game with around a million registered players who can interact and buy and sell land in the virtual world for real money.
The game has attracted real-world companies such as Toyota and Reuters to set up businesses within the game.
