Google Flaw Puts Major Web Sites At Risk

Wednesday 29 November 2006

Several major web sites that use a Google search engine tool could be at risk from a phishing attack.

Experts found the vulnerability in the Google Search Appliance, a computer sold by Google to be a dedicated search engine for a particular web site.

The flaw is in the way it handles certain characters, and it could be used to hack a web site and send users to malicious sites.

Major web sites at risk include government sites, banks, universities and various businesses.

Google has issued a fix for the problem and other security experts have warned affected sites, but it is thought not all sites have installed the fix or are even aware there is a problem.
