Scheme To Approve Kids Safety Software

Monday 11 December 2006

A new scheme aims to help parents choose the best online safety software, as a report claims three in four children have given their personal details out to a stranger online.

Many children do not realise the dangers of handing over information such as their names and addresses to friends they have met on the Web.

Parents also do not do enough to monitor their childrens' browsing activities or warn them of the potential dangers.

The UK government is working with the Internet Watch Foundation and service providers to create a scheme that will show parents if security software has met standards and can be relied on to keep kids safe online.

Software would also be available to alert parents if certain phrases are used while the child is online.
