Dramatic Increase In Phishing Attacks In 2006
Tuesday 16 January 2007
The number of identified phishing web sites rose to over 609,000 in 2006, compared to just 41,000 the year before.
Internet monitoring company Netcraft reported that their anti-phishing toolbar blocked more than 277,000 phishing sites in December alone, after a dramatic increase in the last few months of the year.
Attackers have also started to use sites built with Flash animation rather than text, making it harder for anti-phishing tools to detect them.
