Windows Vista Released

Microsoft has launched its new operating system Windows Vista which brings improved security and many new features.

Windows Vista is the first full new operating system for home users since Windows XP was launched in 2001. Vista offers improved security to protect users online, as well as a new interface and entertainment features.

Windows Vista will eventually be a requirement for particular PC games, software and hardware that take advantage of the latest technology.

There are several different versions of Windows Vista available for home users:
  • - Vista Premium (Upgrade)
  • - Vista Premium (Full)
  • - Vista Ultimate (Upgrade)
  • - Vista Ultimate (Full)
  • - Vista Basic (Upgrade)
  • - Vista Basic (Full)
The Premium edition will be the version for most users, but there is also a Basic version which offers very limited features, and an Ultimate edition which has advanced security and backup features.

Full editions are completely new installs whereas Upgrade versions are cheaper but require Windows XP or 2000 to be already installed.
