Excel Security Flaw in Microsoft Office

Thursday 8 February 2007

Users of older versions of Microsoft's Office software are at risk from malicious code hidden in Excel files.

A flaw in Office versions 2000, XP and 2003, means malicious code can be placed in an Excel file which, when opened, infects the user's PC with a Trojan horse program.

An attacker could then use this to gain access to the user's computer.

Microsoft has not yet released a patch to fix the flaw, but they say users of the latest Office 2007 are unaffected by the problem.
