Windows Vista Boosts PC Sales

A boost in sales of desktop and notebook PCs has been attributed to the release of Windows Vista.

According to a report by Current Analysis, consumers have rushed to buy new PCs that come with Vista already installed.

Overall sales of PCs were up 173% on the week before Vista's launch.

Of the various versions of Vista available for home users, Vista Home Premium has proven the most popular with 70% of PC sales while Vista Home Basic accounted for 22% of PCs sold.

Windows Vista is Microsoft's first new operating system for home PC users since Windows XP was launched in 2001.

As well as improved security, Vista offers a new interface along with better media features and file-searching tools.
