Froogle was officially announced in December 2002, and was aimed at helping users find and compare products and prices from different web sites.

Google has renamed the service to help make it clearer to users what it is actually for, and has also improved the interface to make it simpler to use.

With Google Product Search, users can search for items and view prices from major stores such as eBay and Wal-Mart as well as smaller independent web sites.

The beta version of Google Product Search can be found at www.google.com/products
