Contest Shows Possible Future Of The PC

Tuesday 24 April 2007

The winners have been announced for the PC Design Contest 2007, giving a glimpse at what PCs of the future may look like.

6 winning designs were chosen from 644 submissions to the contest co-sponsored by Intel Korea and Samsung, which looked for designs that merge style, originality and practicality.

The winners included the 'Turning Lamp' which has a cord that when pulled, switches the machine into a different application mode, from PC to music player to video player.

Another design 'Going Out' resembles a handbag purse with a small slim notebook PC inside.

'Once again in front of mirror' is a PC that attempts to blend in with other furniture by mimicing the look of a dresser, with the monitor placed inside a mirror.

Some of the designs feature touch-screen interfaces, Bluetooth and wireless technology, and image projectors.

Although some of the designs may be too unusual to replace the traditional PC, the ideas and technology behind them are likely to become a part of the design of the PCs that consumers will buy in the future.
