Phishing Attack Targets Yahoo! Messenger Users

Wednesday 16 May 2007

A phishing scam is using Yahoo! Messenger to spread messages that contain a link to a fake web site in order to steal user details.

Security experts at Symantec are warning users of Yahoo!'s instant messaging software about the malicious spam messages, which link to a Geocities web page that looks like the login page to Yahoo! 360(Beta).

The fake web site then encourages the user to enter their Yahoo! account information in an attempt to steal their details.

The fake site is part of a phishing attack which will also give its creators access to users' contact lists so they can spread the malicious message to others.

Users are advised not to click on links in suspicious messages, even if they appear to come from people you know.
