Internet Explorer 7 Security Plans

Sunday 19 February 2006

Microsoft have unveiled plans to improve the security of their next browser, Internet Explorer 7.

Rather than having to remember lots of different user IDs and passwords when logging in to web sites, users can create a few 'InfoCards' for different situations that store particular information such as name, e-mail address, and credit card numbers.

The information would be encrypted when passing between the browser and a web site. The 'InfoCard' is intended to to make it easier for users to log on to sites securely, and to make it harder for anyone trying to steal passwords.

In another step to improve security when browsing, there will also be a 'protected mode' area in Windows Vista to prevent malicious code infecting a PC through Internet Explorer.
