Windows Update Blocks ZoneAlarm Web Access

Thursday 10 July 2008

A recent Windows Update has caused some users of ZoneAlarm security software to lose access to the Internet.

In Microsoft's latest monthly security updates for Windows, an issue was introduced where users of ZoneAlarm on Windows XP or 2000 PCs found themselves blocked from accessing the Internet.

The Windows update in question addressed a flaw in the Domain Name System (DNS) which could allow users to be redirected to fake and malicious websites, however it has a conflict with versions of the ZoneAlarm security suite that have not been recently updated.

ZoneAlarm users can temporarily set the Internet Zone Security slider in the Firewall options from High to Medium to allow access to the Internet.

Users should then download the latest version 7.0.483 of ZoneAlarm which contains a fix to address the problem.
