Safer Searching With Scandoo

Sunday 11 June 2006

Security specialists ScanSafe have launched a service that allows you to see a security rating alongside each of the results you get when searching the Web.

A set of traffic lights-style icons indicate the security level of the site - green (safe), amber (not yet classified) and red (dangerous). By holding your mouse cursor over the traffic light icon you can get more detailed information.

Scandoo can be used to search Google, MSN Search and soon Yahoo and Ask too. The service should help make it clearer which sites are potentially unsafe and may try to install malicious programs such as spyware on your PC.

However the service is still only a beta test and is not 100% safe or accurate. You should still be careful even when visiting sites that may appear safe. Also many sites have yet to be correctly classified, but Scandoo is a step in the right direction in improving your safety online.
