Kazaa To Become Legal Download Service

Friday 28 July 2006

File-sharing network Kazaa is following in the footsteps of Napster and becoming a legal music download service.

The Kazaa software allows users to share files including music, but has been under pressure from the music industry which has often blamed its falling profits on losses from illegal filesharing of music through programs like Kazaa.

It is difficult to predict whether any real impact will be made on music swapping as many Kazaa users will have already moved on to alternative file-sharing programs.

However, the new service will be able to take advantage of the increasing numbers of consumers who buy music online.
