Online ID Card For Children

Wednesday 2 August 2006

An electronic identity card has been created to help protect children who use chatrooms and social network sites on the Internet.

Net-ID-me validates the identities of individuals and verifies their age. The identity card can be applied for by parents and children and costs £10 a year.

The child can then log on to the NetID web site to confirm the identity of the other child they are messaging.

The system is designed to help children feel safe online, and know the person they are talking to is really who they say they are.
