AOL To Offer E-mail And Other Services For Free

Saturday 5 August 2006

AOL is making its e-mail and other software free for broadband users in an attempt to enhance its online advertising business.

The move also enables non-AOL Internet users to try its software and other services including e-mail, instant messaging and social networking applications.

Instead of aggressively marketing their dial-up service, AOL are looking to transform into an advertising-supported network offering news, entertainment and more, putting them in a similar position to Google and Yahoo.

The changes are expected to take place by September 2006.
