HSBC Internet Banking Security Threat

Thursday 10 August 2006

A flaw found in the HSBC online banking system could allow hackers to access customers accounts.

The security loophole meant that hackers could use programs that log customers keystrokes to work out how to log on to their accounts.

However, HSBC claim that although research by Cardiff University shows the flaw has been around for 2 years, it had never actually been exploited.

HSBC are reviewing their security procedures and other banks are also being urged to tighten online security measures.
