Thursday 14 September 2006

A new search engine from Google will help blind and visually impaired web users find the most accessible web sites.

Google Accessible Search ranks the most usable web sites first, with less accessible sites lower down.

The system penalizes sites which are hard to navigate and cluttered with unnecessary content such as distracting images.

It is hoped that this will encourage businesses and web site designers to be more considerate of accessibility issues, or risk losing potential visitors.

Users can try an early version of the tool at the Google Labs web site.
