Hi
To download and play music on a PC you should make sure it at least has:

Windows (preferably XP), speakers (2 or more), a soundcard (or some kind of on-board sound), and an Internet connection. Some cheap offers might not include a monitor, so check if they include one or not. Also, if you want a flat-panel TFT monitor rather than the big CRT monitors, this will cost extra.

Then you'll need some software to play the music (e.g. Windows Media Player or Winamp, which is free to download)

There are many different options for downloading music. As far as legal music downloading goes, you can get free music from sites like www.download.com/music which has music by commercial artists as well as many unsigned acts too.
Then there are sites like www.napster.co.uk and http://www2.hmv.co.uk/pmenu/downloads where you pay for song downloads or subscriptions.

To buy a cheap PC, it might be an idea to check out newspaper ads for bargains first, but you could also buy a decent brand new PC (with a monitor) for less than £500 which would be fine for music or office work.

Other computer companies like Mesh and Dell also have packages available for less than £500, but not all come with monitors so check first before buying.
